It is a very nice feeling to travel outside one country to a different country, for whatever reason, either studies or tourist. My home town country is Nigeria in West Africa, about fourteen to fifteen hours by fight, so you can imagine how far apart it is to united state of America. Having lived quite a very long time in Nigeria, my experiences now in the United States have countless. Some are positive while others aren’t; I will discuss just few differences in observed since arriving to Carbondale and how it contracts to back home Nigeria.
Firstly, I know this is basically what most people will think about, and that is food. The food here in Carbondale better still in the united state is completely and totally different from what I have been used back home. In united state pizza seems to be the order of the day, back at home we eat our local traditional food which is known as fufu and is eaten with soup of different kinds.
Secondly, the dressing in united state is quite different compared to back home. People in united state often dress formal and put on jeans and shirts regularly, back in western Africa and particularly Nigeria our dressing is much more cultural oriented, by dressing in Nigeria you can easily tell what state a person is from, but that is obviously not the way in the united states.
Having spent a couple of months in Carbondale I have been able to notice and observe this difference in comparison to my home country.

  1. When living in another country for awhile, it's always edifying to go back and really think about the way culture is manifested in our home country, and the country we are currently living in. Thinking about these things open our eyes to cultural differences and helps us make conclusions that we have never thought of before! excellent job here idris.
